A Complete Wedding Stationery Guide!

Updated: Feb 9

Let talk wedding stationery!

This may very well be the last item on your checklist, and you don’t even realize how important your wedding stationery actually is. Or you could not even know what wedding stationery all consists of. Yes, invitations, but thats only one piece of the puzzle. When you’re caught up looking at the big picture, you sometimes forget about the intricate little details. But for your guests, its the first glimpse of your wedding. It sets the first impression of the theme and mood, so you want to make it count!

While I was planning my own wedding, I found myself researching this very topic. And I quickly became aware that theres so many components when it comes to stationery. There’s many directions you can go with, whether it be ordering an already designed package online, DIY, or collaborating with a local stationer and calligrapher for custom paper goods (which is my own personal preference) there’s really no bad way to go. Consider this as the cherry on top of all your details. Here’s a few pointers to jump start on stationery for each type of bride. Along with our grand master checklist of must needed wedding stationery!

The custom bride

Does calligraphy and wax seals interest you? Read on! Now, if you’re a bit type A like myself, where you need each element to match and have a complete vision of your entire wedding then searching for a local stationer would probably be fitting. You can contact your favorites that can execute the style you’re looking for and let them know what you have in mind. Get a quote and then compare prices and the quality of work that best suits your wedding. Its a great way to add a personal touch when you have professional custom designed pieces that reflect you as a couple. Just don’t be shocked at the hefty price tag that goes along with it. Think of it as a work of art from your stationer and/or calligrapher.

The DIY bride

Do you already own a Cricut or have a craft room? If you’re unable to pay the price, many brides try to DIY some parts of their wedding to cut cost. If you’re creative and crafty, give it a try. Just get ready for a great deal of trial and error. Thats if you’re prepared to put in the time and effort to make something yourself. But everything on Pinterest is not as easy breezy as they make it look, and you might even end up wasting money on materials if It doesn’t turn out exactly the way you want it. So if you’re not too comfortable with DIY, you might want to avoid the Pinterest fails all together and leave it to a professional.

The “no muss, no fuss” bride

Ok, lets be honest, not everyone has the time or money to be dealing with little details. Some brides are just not that picky and are happy with anything as long as it looks pretty. So if you like to “go with the flow” then this is probably the best option for you. There are plenty of awesome websites that offer beautiful, already designed stationery. All you have to do is fill in the blanks. And the great thing about it is, theres options to change colors and fonts to make it uniquely you and still match your wedding theme and palette. If this is right up your alley, Minted.com is one of personal favorites.

The techy bride

Ahh the beauty of technology, nowadays the way to go is paperless. If you’re a save the trees kind of gal and can’t live without checking your email, this might be an option to consider. Not only could this be very budget friendly, but the most convenient for your guests when it comes to invitations. Especially if you’re hosting multiple events that needs an invite, you can forget licking stamps and just click away. A couple good resources are greenvelope.com and paperlesspost.com. Or you can even go wild and try something different. For example, if you have a nautical theme try sending a video of you two on the beach as your save the date, or using oyster shells as place cards. Not every element needs to be on a piece of paper.

Which ever way you go, choose what best represents you as a couple. Something that will make your guests say “that is so them!”
